You have a lot going on this week, no doubt about it. There are brown overalls and bits of bark to be collected for Halloween costumes (yes, I am (going to be) Groot), there are mud boots to be dug out of the basement for pumpkin patch stomping, and there’s a bunch of chocolate, beer and ice cream to be consumed.
If the latter is your main priority, as it should be, put a big heart around Thursday on the calendar, because it’s your date night with both the Portland Chocolate Mob’s Choktoberfest, and Morgan St. Theater’s Night at the Opera ice cream extravaganza, which are happening within a few hours and blocks of one another so you might as well do both. That’s my plan, anyway.
First up, at 6pm, some of our best PDX chocolatiers and brewers are joining forces to bring us Choktoberfest, possibly the best collaboration ever, at Old Portland Hardware.
And then at 8pm, over at Pairings wine shop (across the street from The Ocean), Morgan St. Theater’s Jared Goodman will be putting on Night at the Opera, a celebration of ice cream and opera. Goodman will scoop and sculpt his seasonal ice cream art (think maple ice cream and brown butter polenta cake with poached pears, and acorn squash sorbet with hazelnuts and sage oil), local singer Amanda Taddeo will warble, and you will eat and listen. Oh, and sip, there’s a drink flight included.
Get Choktoberfest tickets here ($20), and get Night at the Opera tickets ($35) by emailing Jared at email@example.com. I think there are only a few tickets left for Night at the Opera, so hurry and make your move. And if you are planning on being Rocket, Drax, Kimora or Star-Lord for Halloween, please let me know, we need to plan our Guardians of the Galaxy trick-or-treating trajectory.
