Cider Summit NW: Keeve Calm & Sip On

There are some ingestible things in this world that are preferable when soft—baguettes, marshmallows, and scrambled eggs certainly, but in most instances, cider is preferable hard.  (Elementary school autumn festivals excluded.)

cidersummitlogoGet your fill of the hard stuff this Saturday, June 23, at the 2nd Annual Cider Summit NW, where over 50 artisan ciders from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, California, England, Spain and France will be poured for an appreciate audience from 11am to 7pm in the South Waterfront’s Elizabeth Caruthers Park.

For $20, you’ll get a lovely commemorative tasting glass and 10 drink tickets, which you may exchange for 3-ounce cider pours and maybe even a chat with a cute cidermaker. If you blow through your initial tastes faster than Apple Splash Capri Suns at a kindergarten birthday party, you can purchase more for $2 each.

Ya Hala restaurant will be onsite selling their equally-intoxicating Lebanese fare, festival co-sponsor Bushwhacker Cider will provide apple pressing demos, and for those of you who like nothing more than a good tram ride with your cider, Portland Aerial Tram is offering 2-for-1 rides to festival attendees.

So if your Saturday could use a taste or two of Aspall’s Cuvee Chevallier, Wandering AengusAnthem Pear, Sea Cider’s Kings & Spies, Woodchuck’s Private Reserve Belgian White, Reverend Nat’s Hallelujah Hopricot, Domaine Dupont’s Cidre Bouche Brut, and 2 Towns Ciderhouse’s The Bad Apple, you have three choices—pre-buy tickets by clicking here and breathe freely, buy tickets Saturday at the door for $25 (cash only), or pray to the gods of fruit fermentation that you win the pair so generously donated to Under The Table by the Cider Summit. All you need to do is comment on the UTT Facebook page regarding which of the festival’s featured tipples (see entire list here) is your personal hard cider of choice, and you’re entered. I’ll announce the winner in Friday’s Table Scraps, so make sure you’re subscribed.

Keeve calm and sip on!
