Don’t Be Daft, Explore Your Craft

The other day, a confused teenager in a sturdy sedan barreled the wrong way up the Hawthorne Bridge and head-on into my front grille, totaling my beloved CR-V and reducing me to a hobbling hobble (temporarily, thankfully) and insurance company-stalking shrew, and frankly, being in a good mood this week has been challenging.

Providentially, the New York Times just ran an article about the secret of happiness, which surprisingly, does not involve installing a chocolate fountain in the kitchen (drat), but rather, giving to others. How nice then, that today I have two pairs of tickets to Widmer BrothersExplore Your Craft to give away to two lucky readers!

exploreyourcraftWhat’s Explore Your Craft? It’s a beer, food and culture-focused collaboration between Portland’s own Widmer Brothers Brewing and DRAFT magazine that’s taking a big ol’ road trip to seven US cities this summer– Portland (of course), Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C.

The tour kickoff is tomorrow evening, July 13th, from 7-10pm (allowing you time for a pre-drink on the patio at brand-new Jamison down the street) in the Pearl District’s beautiful Ecotrust Building, and since the Ecotrust rooftop terrace is involved, this should turn into the perfect July Friday evening.

After all, Widmer will be pouring its seasonal Citra Blonde Summer Brew, newly-released Shaddock IPA, and reserve Kill Devil Brown Ale, along with old favorites like Drop Top Amber Ale, Drifter Pale Ale, Widmer Hefeweizen and Pitch Black IPA, Whole Foods chef Brian Stafford will be cooking up brew-friendly small plates, and meat-tastic Olympic Provisions will man the charcuterie station.

Local artists and musicians will be on hand to liven things up culturally, and the invite promises that “attendees will be given the opportunity to participate in the creation of a unique work of art.” Which could be very interesting

Explore Your Craft tickets are $45 and can be purchased here, or throw your hat in the ring to win a pair on the UTT Facebook page by telling everyone which Widmer beer is your favorite summer sipper. (I’ll announce the winners tomorrow morning in Table Scraps.)

And in closing, please remember to watch your back (and your grille) on the Hawthorne Bridge.
