PPS: The Champagne & Shuttlecocks Edition

ppsbadmintonspreadIt was all fair skies and warm breezes last weekend, perfect for the first official Portland Picnic Society gathering of the year, an afternoon of brunch, bubbles, and badminton dubbed PPS: The Champagne and Shuttlecocks Edition.

As the girls trickled into Laurelhurst Park carrying spring vegetable tarts, lemon thyme bundt cakes, fruit salads, roasted rhubarb parfaits, fresh Nuvrei pastries, and bottles of rosé, Andrea and Brenda wrestled the badminton setup into place, answering the age old question—How many PPSers does it take to set up a badminton net? The answer being, Nine: Two to actually set it up and seven to stand around drinking rosé and watching.

The little red wagon was appropriated for use as our mobile bar, the blankets were spread in the shade, and plates were filled. Very little badminton was played, as it turned out, but most all the rosé was drunk, so we considered it a very successful kickoff to what’s shaping up to be an epic picnic season.
