My Brother’s Crawfish

mybrotherscrawfishshrimpcreoleIf not for a very serendipitous wrong turn, I never would have found My Brother’s Crawfish, which does an excellent job of thoroughly concealing itself in a postage-stamp sized mall peppered with restaurants of every persuasion, at the juncture of SE 82nd and SE Harrison. Once I’d turned into the mall’s narrow opening, there was no way out–I had to circle the perimeter to escape, which is how I found this delicious little Cajun restaurant, which is how I met their hugely comforting mudbug-infested crawfish etouffee, massive crustacean-studded shrimp creole with a big fresh soft french roll for soaking up the thick tomatosauce, huge bowls of seafood boiled with corn, potatoes, mushrooms and andouille, and the fried green tomatoes, oh the fried green tomatoes–sliced nickel-thin and dredged ina  spicy cornmeal batter before being fried to a beautifully light ‘n crunchy crisp and served with a peppy remoulade. Suffice to say it was love at first bite. So I guess that makes this one of those fantastic fateful chance-meeting romances, really.
