Hiroshi
Eating at Hiroshi is almost a spiritual experience. The hushed, pristine dining room is accented with only the most serene of decorative touches—a tall vase of white orchids at one end, a glittery school of metallic silver fish above the sushi bar. Sinking into one of the soft buttery suede banquettes and settling in with a cup of green tea and a menu, you instantly feel as though you should slow down a bit, wipe your harried brow, maybe even start meditating, and finally mail that donation to the Japanese Gardens that fell behind your dresser last year, and be a better person, etc.
Settling in with a cup of green tea and a menu, you instantly feel as though you should slow down a bit, wipe your harried brow, maybe even start meditating…
Once you’ve passed through your initial tea sipping/reflective phase and focused in on the food, it’s difficult not to order everything on the menu. How can one choose between the Hama Hama oysters with ginger sorbet, asparagus wrapped in sliced pork or the tori dango—savory chicken meatball skewers? The sushi is divinely fresh, and the lunchtime bento special is a veritable jewelbox of treasures—spicy tuna roll, a delicate but perfectly seasoned cucumber and shrimp salad, two gyoza dumplings and utterly delicious chicken teriyaki, although you can opt for the salmon, pork cutlet, or fried shrimp in its place.
Hiroshi’s self promotion is virtually nil, you won’t find a website, Facebook page, or Twitter account for the restaurant, and even getting an answer to your phone call can prove challenging. But I guess it’s all just par for Hiroshi’s course of tranquility.
