Meat Cheese Bread

It’s the simple things that matter, and that’s why I like Meat Cheese Bread’s name so much–because this quirky little sandwich shop on SE Stark has not just pinpointed the fundamental ingredients in sandwiches, but they have also paid homage to three of the things that matter most in life, really.

It’s not hard to assemble the perfect meal–a Meat Cheese Bread sandwich, a cup of homemade soup, and a bittersweet chocolate Scharffen Berger brownie, and you’ve pretty much secured your everlasting bliss.

Everything about Meat Cheese Bread is deliciously simple—the pared down breakfast menu lists about a half dozen items, including breakfast burritos, steak and eggs, and granola and yogurt, and is a boon to early morning breakfast adventurers (MCB opens at 7am), while the lunch menu is a short list of truly excellent sandwiches, salads, and soups.

The sandwich menu swings both ways–hot and cold–with standout sandwiches including the delightfully different B.L.B. (Neuskies smoked bacon, roasted heirloom beets, lettuce and aioli on sourdough), and the Park Kitchen—if you’re a fan of Park Kitchen’s iconic flank steak salad, you’ll love this sandwich, with its tender strips of flank steak and savory blue cheese mayonnaise and tart slivers of pickled onions.

Meat Cheese Bread is also a designated purveyor of Xocolatl de Davíd chocolates, and you never know what flavors you’ll find in the case–a bacon caramel, orange and cardamom, green tea, pigs blood ganache.
