About Farmers Ending Hunger
Inspired by the ongoing hunger crisis that continues to plague many communities throughout Oregon, Farmers Ending Hunger was created with the intention of utilizing the productive resources of Oregon’s farmers to fight hunger. The Adopt-An-Acre program allows community members to help cover the expenses of processing acres of crops into high-quality food. FEH is proud to partner with and support the Oregon Food Bank and through this outlet support a network of hunger-relief agencies. Hunger remains a huge problem across Portland and Oregon. In an average month, 72,000 children in Oregon eat meals from the emergency food boxes.
Farmers Ending Hunger farmers and ranchers donated 1.9 million pounds of commodities in 2010 and 2.1 million in 2009. To date 6.2 million pounds have been donated for eventual distribution to the Oregon Food Bank regional network. The locally grown, high quality food products include frozen and canned vegetables, hamburger, pancake mix, onions, potatoes, fresh vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and winter squash and fresh fruit such as cherries and pears.
