Hillsboro Farmers’ Market Opening Day


image003HILLSBORO, OR (April 17, 2012) Spring is here, and so is the Hillsboro Farmers’ Market season. They’re kicking off their 30th anniversary season on Saturday, April 28th with a lively Opening Day Parade led by the Liberty High School Band. Following the parade, join the market in the plaza for cake! The Opening Day Parade, starts at 10am on Saturday April 28th at Lincoln Elementary School, and features a convoy of tractors with your favorite farmers at the wheel, the founders of the markets, your favorite bakers, sauce, spice, and cheese makers offering up samples to the crowds, and examples of beautiful works of art designed by the market artisans. Led by the Liberty High School Marching Band, the parade will wind down Lincoln between 6th and 9th, turn onto 9th and then turn again onto Main St and proceed to the Civic Plaza at 1st and Main. The parade is free and everyone is invited to attend. Cake provided by market pastry vendor favorite, Decadent Creations, will be provided in the plaza at 11:30.

The Hillsboro Saturday Farmers’ Market takes place from 8:00am – 1:30pm every Saturday in Downtown Hillsboro. The Hillsboro Sunday Market kicks off on April 29th and takes place from 10:00am- 2:00pm every Sunday at Orenco Station. This year, the markets welcome more than 100 vendors featuring fresh produce and berries, nursery stock, and hand crafted specialty food products.

The Hillsboro Farmers’ Market 30th Anniversary Season presents an exciting line-up of new, special events, including: Master Your Life series, classes by Master Food Preservers, Master Gardeners, and Master Recyclers. Other attractions include The Bookworm Corner, sponsored by Jacobsen’s Books featuring author appearances and book signings featuring Linda Sundve author of “Life Must Go On” on April 28, Market Sprouts, a contest with prizes for children, and the first ever Amazing Market Race that involves all Washington County farmers markets. The Amazing Market Race/Washington County Farmers Market Scavenger Hunt encourages the exploration of the many farmers markets and market stands and farms in Washington County throughout the season, including farmers markets in Tigard, North Plains, Hillsboro, Beaverton and Forest Grove, Oregon. This is an interactive fun learning experience for kids and families as they visit Washington County farmers’ markets and collect “stamps” for items purchased and participation in market activities. Tasks include giving blood, picking a flat of berries at a favorite U-Pick farm, tasting Arcane Cellars pinot gris, volunteering with Tualatin Valley Gleaners, purchasing three items at a market, making a dish and posting a photo, and many more. Orenco, May 6th: The Hillsboro Sunday Farmers’ Market at Orenco Station takes place every Sunday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, May 6 through October 28, 2012. The Hillsboro Sunday Farmer’s Market at Orenco Station is located in the parking area between Orenco Station Parkway and NE 61st Avenue, just off Cornell Road.
