SUNDAY PARKWAYS JUNE – North Portland | June 24
Welcome to summertime in Portland and get ready for the North Portland Sunday Parkways on June 24. We’ve planned a stellar network of streets that will take you by Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, Kenton, and McCoy Parks, plus Columbia Annex and the New Columbia Activity Area.

The 9.5 mile network is an opportunity to explore North Portland and take in sweeping views along the Willamette Bluff for one of the best cityscape vistas. This is the perfect spot to stop and take some pictures.

Pack a picnic lunch or visit the food vendors and markets along the way.  Plan to spend the day enjoying Portland and meeting your neighbors. If you’re a picture taker, upload your photos to our free Flickr group to share your Sunday Parkways experience with others.

GET READY TO GET ACTIVE!
North Portland is all about fun in the parks! Portland Parks and Recreation has gone bananas this month with tons of activities for people of all ages.

McCoy Park is featuring a stage with DJ Academy hip hop music & breakdancing plus free Zumba and aerobics classes. At Columbia Annex, they are hosting a cool skateboard practice area with ramps and rails. Be sure to spend some time at Peninsula Park, taking in the 5,600 roses Portland’s first Rose Garden at this two-acre park, a tranquil spot to relax for the afternoon.

HUNGRY? A HEALTHY SNACK ALONG THE WAY
All that activity just might make you hungry, so why not pick up some healthy fresh fruit as a snack? Village Market, Portland’s only nonprofit grocery store, is celebrating their one year anniversary of successfully serving residents of the New Columbia neighborhood and surrounding North Portland communities.  Village Market is a community-based project, part of the larger Village Gardens Community Food Initiative, providing healthy food options that are affordable and convenient.

The Sunday Parkways route goes right by the market, a perfect opportunity to load up with some treats for a park picnic.

COLORED PENCILS PERFORMANCES
Colored Pencils Art and Culture Council facilitates intercultural learning among diverse communities through artistic expression and celebrating cultural diversity. They regularly host open mic nights and performances.

As a special treat for the June Sunday Parkways, Colored Pencils will be hosting three culturally-rich performances on the live stage at Arbor Lodge Park between 1:15 and 4pm. Settle into the lawn and take in these amazing performances from this creative organization.

VOLUNTEER!
Are you looking for a way to give back to Sunday Parkways? Please consider volunteering at just one event this season.  By giving just 3.5 hours of your time at one event, you will be helping Sunday Parkways where we need it most.
North Sunday Parkways is our longest route, meaning we need the most support to make this very cool event happen.
We are still searching for 50 people to help as Intersection and Mobile Superheroes for the North event. Guide participants on route and help neighbors get to and from their homes. Here are the positions that need the most help.
  • McCoy Park; 9:45-1:30
  • Arbor Lodge Park; 12:30-4:00
