Two Tarts’ Just Because We Love You Day

From the Two Tarts Bakery newsletter:

Just Because We Love You Day

So the other day I noticed something on the calendar called “Sweetest Day,” scheduled for October 15th. “Huh,” I thought, “maybe it’s a cool, little-known holiday with a lovely story behind it.” Oh no. After a bit of research, I found that “Sweetest Day was a promotion concocted by Cleveland confectioners in 1921. The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s October 8, 1921 edition, which chronicles the first Sweetest Day in Cleveland, states that the first Sweetest Day was planned by a committee of 12 confectioners chaired by candymaker C. C. Hartzell.Confectioners.” The idea was that you would buy lots of candy for your loved ones.

Sorry, not my idea of a holiday. Instead, we at Two Tarts hereby declare October 30th to be “Just Because We Love You Day.” I mean, if the Cleveland Confectioners can create a holiday, so can we! So on the 30th, we’ve decided to have a party for you. (Oh, and it just happens to be Sean Boggs’ birthday.) Free hot chocolate and mini chocolate chip fleur-de-sel cookies for all. Thank you for being loyal followers of all things tarty.
